You Are Allowed

You Are Allowed — the story behind the song

No baby is born with a pre-existing set of beliefs about itself. Those beliefs are taught to us— shaped by the words we hear around us, absorbed before we were ever old enough to question them. You won't like that. You're always like that. You're too much. Be quiet! We took those words as truths; we were too young to know we had a choice.

Over time these beliefs become the truth of the life we think we're allowed to live. Smaller than we really are. Quieter than we need to be.

This song is a reminder that those perceived truths were never yours. You don't have to keep them. You are allowed to be exactly, fully, unapologetically you.

You Are Allowed
Satya Tremaine

V1

How many times, have you denied how you really feel

And how many times have you denied what you need

You learn all this when you are young

By the words whispered in your ear

A child believes all that he hears

He can learn to hide his needs and fears

Chorus

But you are allowed, to be you

You are uniquely you

There’s no-one else, you have to be

Existence chose you

Middle

You needed to feel you mattered no matter what

To feel safe and know that you were enough

Not hear you are too much for me

Do as I say to be loved by me

V3

The world we live in, all begins

With the thoughts in our head

So we can be free

We can choose what we think and believe

Now we’re no longer young

It’s the words we whisper in our own ear

That can fill us with a sense of love

That we are enough

Chorus

We are allowed

To be free

We are all unique

There’s no one else we have to be

Existent Experiences life through you.

Finally allowing myself to be seen.
